Vaiśampāyana said: O Janamejaya! Having been thus addressed, the Pāṇḍava-s headed for the southern part of Pāñcāla, ruled by King Drupada.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: हे जनमेजय! इस प्रकार संबोधित किए जाने के बाद, पांडव राजा द्रुपद द्वारा शासित पंचाल के दक्षिणी भाग की ओर चले गए।
On their way, the brave Pāṇḍava-s met the great-souled, pure-souled, unblemished and illustrious sage Dvaipāyana and paid their respects to him, in accordance with the prescribed rites.
अपने रास्ते में, बहादुर पांडवों ने महान आत्मा वाले, शुद्ध आत्मा वाले, बेदाग और शानदार ऋषि द्वैपायन से मुलाकात की और निर्धारित संस्कारों के अनुसार उन्हें अपना सम्मान दिया।
He too showed them his respect and after their conversation was over, on his instructions, they proceeded to Drupada's palace.

Adopting the lifestyle of Brāhmana-s, they begged for their food. No one recognized those warriors when they stayed there.
ब्राह्मणों की जीवनशैली को अपनाते हुए, उन्होंने अपना भोजन भिक्षा माँगा। जब वे योद्धा वहां रुके तो उन्हें कोई नहीं पहचान पाया।

O Janamejaya! O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Thinking of Kuntī's son, the Pāñcāla got a very hard bow constructed, one that no one else would be able to bend.
हे जनमेजय! हे भरत वंश के वंशज! कुंती के पुत्र के बारे में सोचकर पंचाल ने एक अत्यंत कठोर धनुष बनवाया, जिसे कोई भी झुका नहीं सकता था।

द्रुपद ने कहा: "जो इस धनुष पर प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाएगा और प्रत्यंचा चढ़ाने के बाद ऊपर के लक्ष्य पर इन बाणों से वार करेगा, वह मेरी पुत्री को प्राप्त करेगा।"

Vaiśampāyana said: With these words, King Drupada announced the svayaṃvara everywhere. O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! Hearing this, all the kings assembled.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: इन शब्दों के साथ, राजा द्रुपद ने हर जगह स्वयंवर की घोषणा की। हे भरत वंश के वंशज! यह सुनकर सभी राजा एकत्रित हो गये।
Many great-souled riṣi-s also came there, wishing to witness the svayaṃvara. O king! The Kaurava-s, led by Duryodhana, also came there, accompanied by Karṇa.
स्वयंवर देखने की इच्छा से कई महात्मा ऋषि भी वहाँ आये। हे राजा! दुर्योधन के नेतृत्व में कौरव भी कर्ण के साथ वहां आये।
Many illustrious Brāhmana-s also came from many countries. The great-souled Drupada duly worshipped the kings.
अनेक देशों से अनेक प्रतिष्ठित ब्राह्मण भी आये। महाबली द्रुपद ने राजाओं की विधिपूर्वक पूजा की।
All the citizens and all the kings took their seats, resulting in a roar like that of the ocean full of porpoises.
सभी नागरिक और सभी राजा अपने-अपने स्थान पर बैठ गए, जिसके परिणामस्वरूप पर्पोइज़ से भरे समुद्र की गर्जना हुई।

O ruler of the earth! When everything was quiet, Dhṛṣṭadyumna went to the centre of the arena and spoke, in a thundering voice, words that were deep with meaning and sweet.
हे पृथ्वी के शासक! जब सब कुछ शांत हो गया, तो धृष्टद्युम्न अखाड़े के केंद्र में गया और गड़गड़ाती आवाज में ऐसे शब्द बोले जो गहरे अर्थ वाले और मधुर थे।

"O assembled kings! Hear that this is the bow, that is the target and these are the arrows. With these five arrows, shoot the target through the hole in the centre of the machine.
"हे एकत्रित राजाओं! सुनो कि यह धनुष है, वह लक्ष्य है और ये तीर हैं। इन पांच तीरों से, मशीन के केंद्र में छेद के माध्यम से लक्ष्य पर निशाना साधो।
I truly say that the handsome and strong one, born in a noble family, who accomplishes this great feat today, will obtain as his wife my sister Kṛṣṇā."
मैं सच में कहता हूं कि एक कुलीन परिवार में पैदा हुआ सुंदर और मजबूत व्यक्ति, जो आज यह महान उपलब्धि हासिल करेगा, वह अपनी पत्नी के रूप में मेरी बहन कृष्णा को प्राप्त करेगा।"
